NEHÉZ FAMILIES FOM THE COUNTIY
OF SZATMÁR

LANDOWNERPEASANTSSPREADINGHOME

Szatmár county

Nehéz families, who have spread in the county, mainly on the eastern part of it.
The descendants of the ancestors, who have been settled on the area of the Nyírmada-Nagyecsed-Nyírbátor triangle.

The area was rather  under populated at the end of the18th   century. In the censuses of the villages there are almost only armalista (people, who were farming and paying tax on serf land) nobles. So, it was economic interest, to settle agricultural people  on the properties, even at the cost of allowances.

Greek Catholic
Nehéz families appeared in Fábiánháza in the year of 1777, in Parasznya after the year of 1810, Calvinist Nehéz families in Parasznya in the year of 1791, in Őr in the year of 1802. From this, it is likely,  that they have arrived from different places.

These farming people Formerly have not land, later they had. The Nehez people, having different religion, never mixed through marriage.

The places of residences in the 18th century

A together with the multiplying of the families, slowly commenced the dispersing of them in the country. There are many man and women with a degree, between the members of the generation of the 20th and the 21st   century. Almost nobody remained at his original profession. The members of the family live mainly in the eastern and central part of the country, still in the 21st   century. Many of them still are the residents of the villages, mentioned above.

Our Nehéz family descends from Greec Catholic  farming ancestors, who descend  from Császári.

To reveal the origin of the family, we have to study the registers of the surrounding villages, because the movement of the people was large. From these, it was possible to compile two family trees with different size, and nine lesser fragments of family trees.

Greek catholic
church of
Fábiánháza

Famili tree I. (The barunch of fábiánháza). We know 181 members of it. This is our family, whose first known members have arrived to Fábiánháza.

Earl Károlyi Ferenc, lord of the village have done a lot, to populate his depopulated lordship. However there is no reference to the place of origin of those, who have arrived in the village. Unfortunately neither the archives, nor the local history gives data relating to the exact place of origin.

Have emerged the origin of Kárpátalja, but there is no Nehéz family in the censuses of Ung, Ugocsa, Bereg, and Máramaros counties, at the end of the18th   century.
So, the place of origin of the Nehéz families must be looked for in other areas in the future,  hoping, that once we will find the traces of them.

Vasilis
was the first known member of the family, who born about  in the year of 1950, and who have arrived in Fábiánháza with 3 children  (Andreas, Basilius, Franciscus). The first note into the register happened in the year of 1777, when his daughter with the name of  Mária was born.
 Already his son
Iván (1780-1848)  moved to Császári, later his grandsons László Basil (1810 -), Franciscus (1800 -), Joannes (1814-1872)  moved there too.
The families have enlarged also in Fábiánháza and Császári, and have spread over to surrounding villages.

In the 21st   century, the name was carried further by
László (1970-),  György (1983-), Tamás (1987-) and Marcel

Családfa II. (The brunch of parasznya). We know 23 members of it. It is likely, that they descend from the same place, as those of FÁbiánháza. The first known member of the family is Joannes (1759 appr.-1817), who have arrived with his son, Joannes (1810 appr.-).
Many left from Parasznya, because of the hard livelihood.
Four have left from the first tree generation:
Stephanus (1832-), Mihály (1840-), Stephanus (1850-), Mihail (1859-). Ivannes (1854-) have married to Hodász, and he had only daughters, who lived at the end of the 19th  century.

So nobody have remained with the name of Nehéz in the village, from this family.

Those, who carry the name further

Calvinist Nehéz families have appeared in the surrounding Calvinist villages too. These people were also farming ones. The origin of them is not known. Also no related information have been found.

We know two larger and two smaller fragments of  family trees of the Calvinist Nehéz people.

Calvinist church of Parasznya

Family tree III. (The brunch of parasznya) We know 85 members of it.
The first member of the family was
András (1796 appr.-). He had six children, but only four have born in Parasznya. Tree of them have become adult.  Sára (1803-) and János (1800-) likely have emigrated, because there is no further trace of them in the surroundings. The descendants of András (1791appr.-1845) give the family tree forward. The register of births is missing between the years of 1811 and 1840. Hence is the not of “no proof  of parent connection” at his 10 children.

More of them married from E
őr and Vaja, or have moved there too. Later,  the fate of András (1828 appr.-) and Gábor (1830 appr.) is not known. The other children gave 40 descendants for the fourth generation. 18 children have died already in childhood. The other children were the descendants of the Nehéz girls. Only five boys have remained from this many children, who carried the name further: Károly (1841-1884), Mihály(1865-) and Imre (1868-), whose brunch spread further in Őr, Gábor (1851-), who moved to Debrecen and Sándor (1852-), whose fate is not known.
Károly(
1841-1884) married Julianna in the year of 1870, who is on the IV. Family tree.
There were for members of the family, at the end of the19th   century, who carried the name further,
Albert (1873-),  György (1875-), Károly (1894-) and Imre (1895-).
We do not know the descendants of the 20th and the 21st   century.

Óri református  templom

Családfa IV. (The brunch of őr).  We know 58 members of it. The first member in Eőr was György (1779 appr.-1841), who married in the year of 1802. Five children have become adult, from his nine children.
The second generation married to Vaja, and propagated further there.

Julianna
(1852-1875) in the year of 1870 married to Károly, the member of the nr. III family, in this way, the two brunch were linked. Albert (1873-), Kálmán (1876-) and István (1877-), who were born in the last third part of the century, could emigrate, because there is no further trace of them in the neighborhood.
György
(1875-) moved to Hodász, Károly (1866-) and his family lived here still at the end of the century.

The brunch of
Károly could be traced till nowadays. The name is carried further by Károly Róbert, who lives in Miskolc.

Emigration

In the emigration lists between the years of 1896 and 1914, there is 13 persons from this region. Four of them is on our family trees. The others are in those registers, what we did not investigated.
János from Császári, György from Derzsi, András from Parasznya, Therezia and Erzsébet from Őr left to America.
Besides this, Nehéz people  have left  from the habitants of Nyírmeggyes, Nyírgyulaj, Papos and Mátészalka.
